Sacred Grounds: Home of the Kanchi Maha Periyava
The museum stands on spiritually blessed land that once hosted the revered Hindu pontiff, Sri Chandrasekharendra Saraswati Swamigal, the Kanchi Maha Periyava. His personal room, the tranquil Khoshala, Room 101 is now carefully preserved, displaying rare photographs and sacred artifacts from his time here. These sanctified spaces offer guests an intimate connection to one of India’s most beloved spiritual leaders.

The Legacy of Madras Central
Prison
A cornerstone of colonial resistance, the original gates of the Madras Central Prison (1837–2009), where legends like Subhash Chandra Bose, Veer Savarkar, and M. Karunanidhi were held, now stand proudly at Swamimalai. Despite the prison’s demolition, INDeco preserved this symbol of India’s struggle by acquiring its iconic gates and Netaji Subhash Chandra Bose’s prison cell, creating a powerful memorial to our fight for independence.

Sacred waters & Chola Secrets
Flowing silently through the property, an ancient canal brings the sacred waters of the Cauvery into the heart of the resort, a channel local legend says was built specifically to serve the revered Paramacharya. This spiritual lifeline mirrors a deeper history hidden beneath the surface, a secret Chola-era tunnel that once linked these grounds to an ancient armoury at Thimmakudi. As you walk the trails, you may still find excavated remnants of swords and shields, quiet echoes of the skilled ironworkers and military might that once defined this land.

Where Art Breathes
Housing an unparalleled collection of ancient sculptures and handcrafted artworks, from Hindu deities to life sized dancers and warriors, we transport visitors to eras where artistry was a sacred act of devotion. Unlike traditional galleries, this museum thrives in harmony with the hotel’s eco-conscious ethos, surrounded by gardens and sacred groves that turn the experience into a multi-sensory and spiritually grounding journey. For the culturally curious traveler, the Steve Borgia Indian Heritage Museum offers not just knowledge but a profound connection to the wisdom and reflection of something greater than oneself.
